Choosing between external recruitment methods.
Advertised Selection - (Scatter-gun approach)
Advantage
- Process which can be tightly project managed through receipt of applications, screening, interviews, reports on shortlist candidates, client interview programme and negotiations.
- Speed is important to maintain candidates' interest and client choice;
- Reaches people who are actively looking;
- Reaches the target market by knowing and carefully choosing media;
- Candidates opt in (for example to relocating or working in a start-up business);
- Consultant loyalty is to the client;
- Confidential cut-out to both client and candidates (v. client using a box number or organisation name);
- Consultant is highly trained interviewer and identifying those who will perform reliably.
Disadvantage
- Money spent on advertising is gone, whether produces result or not;
- Can be costly to advertise in all possible media so careful choice and attractive advertisement is essential. Or consider an Executive search;
- If client's specification changes after advertisement, advertisement may attract wrong pool of candidates; (a Search can be quickly refocused).
